Support of Cultural and Educational Needs of National Minorities and Ethnic Groups in Ukraine
Abstract
The article deals with the problem of support of cultural and educational needs of national minorities and ethnic groups in Ukraine on the base of democracy and tolerance, benevolence towards representatives of other ethnic groups. Particular attention is paid to providing mass communication for national minorities, publishing manuals and dictionaries, organization of museums, supporting different cultural events, for example folk festivals, presentation of ethnic cuisine etc. The purpose of the article is to determine the number of national minorities and ethnic groups, to show the state efforts in supporting preservation of their cultural identity and in integration of the Ukrainian society as well. The research methodology is based on the historical and objectivity methods; also the author has applied statistic, comparative historical methods, ethnographic observation and field studies, which is widely used in cultural researches. The scientific novelty of the research is in truthful overview of coexistence of different ethnic groups and tolerant attitude towards people of different confessions and nationalities. Political speculations concerning interethnic processes in Ukraine are being denied. The author has specified and improved definitions concerning classification of different ethnic groups in Ukraine. The results are focused on the state policy towards ethnic groups, which is based on the principles of equality and justice, state support in creation of educational programs for learning native language by representatives of ethnic groups, revival of their cultures in the spirit of mutual respect. It is emphasized that the ideas of kindness, tolerant attitude towards people, ethnic groups and cultures should dominate in a new model of science, education and state building concepts as well. New impulses of development and stabilization in the world are impossible without awareness of value of cultural diversity. The author underlined that international documents on the rights of national minorities provide their integration into the larger population of the country, their participation in the state building processes, to peaceful coexistence and respect to every person regardless of race or nationality.
