- General provisions
1.1. The scientific journal “Folk Art and Ethnology” in matters of responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and publishing activities adheres to the Recommendations on the Use of AI in Scholarly Communication, developed by the European Association of Scientific Editors, the Recommendations on the Responsible Implementation and Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Higher Education Institutions, developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as the internal regulations that determine the activities of the institution co-founder and co-publisher of the journal – the M. T. Rylskyi Institute of Art Studies, Folkloristics and Ethnology of the NAS of Ukraine.
1.2. The scientific journal “Folk Art and Ethnology” recognizes the possibility of using artificial intelligence tools in the process of preparing scientific materials by authors, provided that the principles of academic integrity are strictly observed.
- Authors' use of AI
2.1. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be considered authors or co-authors of articles and cannot replace scientific analysis, interpretation of results, or formulation of conclusions.
2.2. Authors may use artificial intelligence tools only as auxiliary means, in particular for:
- searching for sources and historiography on the topic (subject to verification of the reality of their existence and the author's own analysis of them);
- translating annotations (subject to the author's verification of its correctness);
- linguistic and stylistic editing and technical formatting of the text;
- designing lists of sources and literature, as well as English-language References in accordance with the style adopted in the journal;
- basic processing of illustrative materials (for example, retouching, improving quality or graphic presentation), only on the condition that such use of AI is clearly indicated and does not create unreliable, distorted or unethical images.
2.3. Authors are fully responsible for:
- the accuracy and originality of the submitted material;
- the absence of plagiarism and copyright infringement;
- the correctness of all statements, data and references, regardless of the use of AI.
2.4. At the request of the editorial board, authors are obliged to honestly state whether they have used AI tools, declaring this in the appropriate section "Use of Artificial Intelligence", which is indicated at the end of the manuscript at the stage of sending it to the editorial board.
- Use of AI by reviewers
3.1. Reviewing scientific manuscripts implies academic integrity and personal responsibility of experts for their feedback and comments.
3.2. During the review process, AI tools should not be used by reviewers due to the risks of violating confidentiality, creating non-expert evaluations or false information.
3.3. Reviewers are prohibited from uploading their review forms to any AI tools, even for the purpose of improving language and readability.
- Use of AI by the editorial board
4.1. In case of suspicion of unfair use of artificial intelligence tools by authors, lack of clear indication of the degree of its application, the editorial board has the right to use specialized software to detect traces of AI and request the generation history from the authors to confirm originality.
4.2. The use of automated software tools by the editorial board to detect unfair manipulations with text or images must be controlled by a person responsible for this.
4.3. If unfair use of AI is established, the journal editorial board has the right to refuse publication and notify the author's affiliated institution of such a violation, or to withdraw an already published article, indicating the reason for such retraction.
- Final provisions
5.1. Submission of a manuscript to the journal means that the authors have read this policy, agree with it and are fully responsible for the transparent and honest use of AI tools when preparing articles.
5.2. Due to the dynamic development of artificial intelligence tools, the journal's policy on its use may be periodically reviewed and improved, taking into account possible updates to relevant ethical standards and scientific publishing practices.
