Foreign Ukrainians: Autochthonness as a Source of Identity Preservation
Abstract
The article is aimed at the scientific appraisal of a new approach in the research of such a phenomenomenon as autochtonness of national minorities, namely autochtonness influence on the national identity preservation. Just the autochtonness of national minorities allows to preserve their identity, gives an opportunity to resist assimilation nets.
At the same time, as it is proved in practice, it has not been a success for all national minorities to keep own identity. That’s why the question is risen: why some of them have defended own identity despite the pressure of authoritative structures of titular nation and the others haven’t reached to such state? As it is affirmed by historical data, identity preservation is typical for those national minorities, which have or had own autochtonness. Just such a state is preserved in the historical memory of generations.
The authoress has analyzed theoretical principles of the national minorities assimilation, proposed by European and American scientists and established by authoritative structures of some states. It has been done to research indicated problem. Assimilation scheme as to the national minorities, especially Ukrainians, established by authoritative structures of the Republic of Poland in the interwar period has been taken as the basic example. It has been developed by Polish scientists and politicians (R. Dmowski, S. Stempowski, Yu. Orzehowski). Assimilation scheme has been realized through the osadniks, bilingualism and religious factor.
In our opinion, the subject under consideration is very important for the future development of European community in the connection with the collapse of modern European migration policy and also the policy of titular nations adaptation for arrived migrants from the other civilizations.
